i have a 97 with 20 x 8.5 inch rims. most or some will say don't go 20's because of the type of car, but it works for me. the problem i had was the width, like i said i went 8.5 because i like a nice deep lip but they told me that the brakes were too big or something like that and 7.5 width would work. but i'm hard headed and i knew what i wanted. it rides fine, no scrubbing unless i have alot of weight in the car (5 passengers plus some bags in the trunk or something) but that's not an everyday thing very rare. as far as the offset each type of rim can or can't work u just gotta check em out.
hope this helped, good luck.
i don't think the 97 and 01 has much frame difference? someone else might know about that better!

17's for ride quality, but 19's would be ideal.

20x7.5 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! I called up discountwheelwarehouse to verify, they won't warrany 8.5's. 20x8.5 will not make much of a difference. It will give you a little bit more of a deeper lip on your rims, but not much more noticeable. Make sure you get coilovers though. If you're riding on springs their gonna rub like hell and spacers will only make the ride feel like crap.

Watch the steering. The wheels will be wide, and when you bust a U-turn the tires will scrape the inner part of the car.

a 20 on that car, I'd say is too big. but if you did, ideally you aught to go 20x7.5 offsets in the 35-40.

if I decide to do it all over again, I'd push a 19x8.5 with a offset in the 24 to 35 range

push em out with the offsets, give it a good stance and you get this
