Default HELP!!! My speedometer needle is not working(not the bulb)

I was driving my car today and the speedometer needle would fluctuate. It would jump from 0 to 40mph. Then i kept driving. the Next time i started the car........the needle just stays at zero. So now i have no speed reading. This is pissing me off cuz i cant tell how fast im going.

did anyone have this problem with their ES? Can you tell me how to fix it w/o bringing it to the dealer? Do you think O.L.T. can fix this problem?

Once again, this is NOT the needle illumination problem. The needle itself is not working.

Any help is appreciated. thx

Start by checking the vehicle speed sensor. I don't know exactly where it is on your generation, but on the 97 it is located on top of the transaxle unit. It is probably a 3-wire plug (power, ground, and reference). Backprobe the harness with a volt meter. You should have 12v across the circuit.

A possible resason that your needle isn't functioning could be due to bad connections in the back of the cluster... What worked for me on the temperature gauge needle and the fuel gauge needle was by replacing them with a different unit that had a more secure screw so that it has a full connection instead of a partial one.

i doubt it's the vehicle speed sensor because the odometer is still working.

Now the needles permanently stopped working!!! no matter how hard i smack it! DAMN IT!!!

It's hard to downshift w/o knowing the speed.

Does anyone know if OLT can fix this problem? or only lighting related issues?
