Talking Check out steering emblem....

how do u guys like my lexus emblem on steering wheel. i just hate the original one. i cannot believe it that lexus did not put small detalis on the vehicle.

For example the reading maps when u turn it on, both the driver and the passenger gets on @ the same time. That doesn't make any sense. If the driver wants it why would the passenger light be one. . Also there are no lights @ the front driver and passenger leg area. U know small touches. Lastly, there should be case where the fog lights should be able to turn on without actually turning on the headlights. It not only makes it convenient to use but also looks good from the front (daytime running lights on with just fog lights).

I'd say it very well could be. Whether or not it would cause any real harm is debatable-most likely not considering the force from the airbag would probably break the emblem in half. However, I wouldn't want to put anything across that center seam that runs across the middle of the airbag, which is where it splits in the event of airbag deployment.

although it looks good, i would imagine there would be shrapnel flying towards your face depending on what kind of adhesive was used. but i notice the newer lexus cars have emblems on the steering wheel so maybe it is safe.

As far as I know, airbags that come with emblems on them from the factory do not split in the middle of the emblem. Rather, the emblem is placed higher up than where the airbags deploys from to avoid this issue.

Thumbs up

i dont think there is a lot of concern if the airbag deploys... because the emblem is made of plastic.
Al first i was lookin everywhere to find the right size to fit in the original airbag location.
I guess u can also use the outside lexus emblem. i.e. The ones located in the front and @ the back to put that in the airbag (if u have xtra ones or can find it on ebay). But then i would be concern if the airbag deploys because those emblems r hard n might damage u. But thats up to u what type n colour of emblem u choose. I chose more simple one n silver colour as used in almost all cars.

so heres how i did it....
1] so i opened the hood n right in the middle is the lexus emblem .

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...nd/pics004.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...nd/pics005.jpg

2] i removed it and peeled off the lexus emblem ( carefully because the emblem itself is very delicate. Slight error might crack the emblem). Its just plastic rapped in aluminium foil.

3] Next i used this glue..n applied it on the emblem. A note that makesure u test it somewhere else to makesure that the glue doesn't ripe of the coating. OH i cleaned the original place with alcohol because i used dashboard cleaners.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...nd/pics001.jpg

4] just press it hard for 1 minute or so... n there u have it. I found this glue to be damm strong. A slight drop on ur hand will ripe off the skin... so be very careful n wear gloves.

Although it may not look as the new ES . n it doesnt go deep into the original lexus emblem. So it pops out a little bit. But it does give me a good feeling when i drive the car. ( it may be for u too.)

U can also try other glues. But u make sure to test it. or read proper instructions. U dont want to ruin the dash-airbag with glue left overs that cannot be cleaned (if u wish to remove the emblem later on). N also do not apply a lot excess glue because then it will come out from the sides. So only apply how much u need.

Anyways, let me know the final results...with pics.

I agree on the lack of detail put into the design, but the emblem lacks any transition from the brown leather to the chrome making it look unfinished.

my wife ES has gray interior so that chrome would be a nice accent to it

but i wont do it cuz even though it is plastic ...when an airbag deploys I would assume it shoots out at over 50mph and...coming at ur face at that speed even Styrofoam would probly hurt

i did the same thing on my honda accord. i crashed it into a median on the freeway going who knows how fast. when the airbags deployed, i don't know what happened to the emblem. i sit as far as i can from the air bag and my seat tilted back a lil bit. so when the airbags deployed i don't think they ever touched me, because i did not feel any burns from the airbags as i did with other ones. shouldn't be a concern if the bags deploy.

Your emblem shot at you a million miles per hour and you couldn't feel it cause it went through you so fast. j/k
