New ES Member Help
Hey All,
I;m buying my sisters 1997-ES300, 129,00 miles price $4,800; she is of course a girl and I'm sure Maint on the car has suffered. I have to find a way to get lipstick and random scratches out of the body.
I have always bought bimmers and BMW publishes "TSB's" Technical Service bulletins. Dealers will replace parts or fix issues even if the car is out of warranty if it's TSB related.
1. Dose Lexus publish any TSB type of documents?
2. Since I;m sure the car has just been driven and not overly taken care of except for jiffy lubes..yuck What should I ask the dealer to find for me? area's of normal ware?
I'm tired of driving my M3 for business; especially with gas prices.
I;m excited to be driving a car that won't cost me and arm and leg to maintain. I just spent $700.00 for a fuel pump on my 03 M3

welcome!
there are many TSB's for the ES300. unfortunately, i don't know where to find them for you. i'm sure someone else will. i think the timing belt and water pump are usually checked on right about there.
pictures of your M3? it's my favorite car.

To find TSB's for your car, go to http://www.alldata.com and input your year/make/model. To check out any maintenance history of your car, just ask the service counter of your Lexus dealership for a rundown of the history. They will ask for the VIN number of your car.

Welcome ...
Check for maintenance proceedures needed or not preformed in your owner's manuals.
Respectfully, sometimes family purchases can be unpleasant. Might be better to purchase outside the family.
That said, your lack of maintenance could be very costly. A few concerns would be spark plug replacement overdue; timing belt/water pump overdue, lack of automatic transmission fluid changing may have the transmission on the verge of replacement. Then there are the brake and steering components that may be on the edge of history. Added up, the cost may out value the auto.
I don't think Lexus honors TSBs outside of warranty. A quick call to a Lexus dealer would confirm this.

I still have the M3; I just don't want to drive it as much. 2003 m3 89,548 miles to date
Thanks for your concern Tammy; that's very good advice which I would normally follow. I look at it as a 5K car. I'm expecting less problems with this vs. buying a mid 90's 528 or 540. I;ve tried to read as much as possible and I'm also paying for the dealer to go over the car bumper to bumper for timing belt, manifold leaks, water pump, etc before I cough up 5K to pay off the car for her
