Default speaking of tires...

having gone through 2 sets of the tires that came on my es300 ('03), I decided to upgrade. a few things worth pointing out for novices...

1) some folks recommended dropping from the v-rated tire b/c "you're not going to drive at high speeds". the v-rating gives a lot more to the tire than just speed! it assists in cornering, turning, emergency maneuvering, etc. wasn't worth saving a few bucks over 2 years to get reduced response.
2) i got quotes from my local tire stores and compared w/ the tirerack.com. I could save a lot by buying online and finally told one of my local service dealers about the difference, maybe 25% more. he said sure, but, if you buy online he's going to charge for mounting, installation, etc. plus i wouldn't get the free rotations and checks nor the hazard warranty that he includes w/ his tires. if you're a car buff and do all that yourself then online may be the way to go but i figured i'd save a lot in the long run. Glad I Asked!
3) several tires were recommended on this website but i went with BF Goodrich Traction T/As. They are outstanding so far, can't wait to see the miles I get on them.

Cool

The tire industry is abit of a wash. The only two differances between a tire that lasts 10,000 miles, and a tire that last 60,000 miles is the cure time (#1) & temperature (#2).

I wouldn't drop the V rating. That's just stupid.

Default

I have Yokohama Avid V4s in 215 55VR16 and highly recommend them. The 205 65VR15 Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus that came on my '95 handled poorly.
