Brake pad and rotor recommendation?
Can someone recommend a suitable replacement for my front and rear brake pads (and rotors for that matter)?
I need to replace them and I am looking to get at least as good performance I received from the OEM.
(OEM, by the way wants $289 for a rear wheel brake job....no thanks)

FYI Akebone ProACT pads are the dealer replacement pads.
Don't forget to flush the brake fluid.
Whoever's dot 3 if you don't care
If you know what brake fade is - that means you're boiling your brake fluid. Replace it with dot 4, or dot 5.1 if you're a rich person & go to a road racing track. (Auto-X doesn't count!)

Dot 4 boils at a higher temperature.
When people talk about slight brake fade, the pads suck. When people have brakes that FADE - as in, you push the pedal & the brakes are non-existant. The fluid is boiling out of the caliper.
Most people don't know the differance, put descent pads & rotors on & then think they need a big brake kit because the brakes are still fading. In reality they just are not smart enough to realize the real problem is that their brake fluid is pathetic & all they really needed (Past good pads & rotors) was brake fluid that doesn't suck.

I always use dot4. dot 4 is compatible with Dot3, just higher boiling point as was pointed out.
Dont' mix dot 5 with dot 4or3 - it is incompatible and would require a coomplete flush out of the lines (not just bleeding, but cleaning as well).
I just finished my back brakes with Dealer pads (no one had the pads I needed!!) and I had the rotors turned. what a surprise when I saw good-ole-fashined mini-drum brakes for the parking brake!!! inside the rotor. Smart design actually - but a surprise none-the-less.
On to brake pads for the front. Akebono, I read....

what do you mean?, you don't have to log in.
click on the link that I gave you.
click on Shop by Model (left hand column), click on you model, then click on your year, then click on the year, then click on "Maintenence items top 40"
that should bring you here
then click on "Add to Cart" for the items you need, after each one, click continue shopping until you got them all. then click on checkout. Fill out the appropriate information for billing and shipping and you are done. The CL discount code can be found under Sewell Lexus's description here.
I hope that works for you. Took less than a week to arrive.

hey i need help. i decided to upgrade my brakes by switching to hawk pads HPS i tried getting the rear installed first because my front rotors didnt come in yet so i change the rear rotors at a local shop and when it came time to put the brakes in the Hawk brake pad # HB401F.587 was what i got but the mechanic says it doesnt fit and is the wrong pad. I search on the manufacturer's website and its the right part number. i got the part from pepboys and they said it was the right one too. The mechanic showed me the pads that came off the car and the pad from the hawk and it was a major difference in size. Can someone chime in this? thanks! Any of you guy have hawk pads in the rear? Please help!

You didn't get rear pads for a Camry did you?
The ES/Windom doesn't share rear brakes with the rest of the Camry platform (Actually it does, but only the v6 Camry Wagon - which none of us ever see in north america)
The rear pads are slightly different & the rear rotors are a 1/4, or a 1/2" larger in diameter (As are the calipers, and there is a load sensing brake proportioning valve) At this point, too much information LoL!
