Default rims

I just bought some 17 inch rim wit 255/45/17 tires and the back is rubbing. the outside or the back tire is rubbing on the edge of the rear fender. My brother say it my struts and they need to be replaced. Anyone have 255/45 tires and doesnt rub?

255/45/17 is too wide of a tire.. the rubbing is bcuz the tire is too wide, hence if you went with 225/45/17 you should be fine..

I have an 02 with 235/40-18 and they rub slightly only when I hit a bump. A 225/45 would have been better for me, but the tire I wanted doesn't come in that size.

255 is way too wide for a 96. go skinnier.

What year ES is your ES?

Like truongsta8 said, 255/45/17 is WAY too big for the ES (at least for the `97-01).
225 is probably the thickest, some one might be able to confirm this?
I'm riding on 225/40/18, and I'm thinking of going up to 225/45/18, I'm not sure yet.

I believe that they told you that the tires are just too big, the rims should be fine. Just change your tire size.

No not me. I have a 98 ES 300 with 20" and I run 225/35/20 and I don't have any rubbing or turning clearance problems
