I bought a 96 ES300 last week. Two days ago when I was drving on highway I found the ABS warning light comes on. The detail symptom is:
When starting the engine, the ABS light comes on then off, which shows its normal and passes the start up self check, and if you drive with speed below approx. 75mph, the ABS light is off, which is also normal.
But if you are on highway and reach the speed of 76mph or above, the ABS light will on and will not off, although you slow down the speed later. If you turn off the engine and restart it, the ABS light will go off until you reach 76mph again and then it comes on.
Anybody has suggestions? What part of ABS system has problem? Thanks.

Its probably the sensor on one of the wheels. Thats whats wrong with my 2000. I'm looking for one now so I can replace it and the dealership wanted like $450-$500 for parts and labor.

i had a problem somewhat like that and went to my custom shop to read the code and my mechanic said sometimes older cars will throw codes when nothing is wrong( just a glitch in the matrix, haha) have him check and reset all codes and if it persists then it is definately a sensor issue

I will take the car to get the ABS diagnosed or fixed tomorrow. There are some choices, one is go to Lexus dealer, and another is some repairing shops like Firestone (I contacted them and they said they could fix it). So any suggestion where I should take the car to? Will dealer charge more?

I might lean toward a Toyota dealer if one is close and will service your Lexus. Otherwise, the Lexus dealer will have the correct part replacement, warranty the repair and give you a loaner. They would cost the most for the repair.
But, may I suggest you stay away from tire dealers or shops who may use a universal "cut in" replacement part that fails to match the quality of the other three sensors in the system....
This may create intermittant errors with the antilock brake system electronic control module (ABS ECM)
