Question converting intake box to cone?

This is not an endorsement, just a question. I wonder how this would compare to replacing the entire intake with a metal pipe? Seems a hell of a lot easier this way. On a side note, it seems to only be available for 92-93 I have no idea why. All insight, opinions welcome!

ACutally it should be easier in a 1MZ motor, than a 3VZ-FE motor. The 2VZ & 3VZ require a MAF adapter in addition to teh metal pipe. It is usually aluminum (mandrel bent).

I'd look into Injen (ask them to see if a the 1997-2000 Camry/Solara intake will work).

BTW, avoid Weapon R. A person tried it for their 1996 Cmary V6, and their diffuser in the cone, basically give the MAF sensor bad readings, and the fact there's an issue with vacuum lines.

The listing above, doesn't even have a metal pipe. It's just a bolt on cone to the stock manifold. Weapon R Weapon R... Why don't you share with all of us, we have a Weapon R discussion going in another thread!

so do you wnat to hear the nitty-gritty with my personal experience with Weapon R which stems back 2 yerars ago (before they considered something for teh Camry platform)?

I was asking around who would like to get into a market...for intakes for Camry (and ES250, because there were people who wanted one). Weapon R accepted.

I sent them my existing pipe (pulled from a junkyard). I was thinking, since I sent it in this way....we can't screw this it.

Apparently they did. WEll, first they went searching in their closet, found one similar to it (they told me that). Put 2 vacuum hose caps on it, and sent it out.

Delighted when I got it....only to found it was too long. It didn't fit the engine compartment. I was like WTF??? I called them up hoping they will resolve this issue, only for them to say it was a custom job (even though it was an existing part)....and they willnot accept returns for modifications. They basically siad F-you and fix it yourself. They basically took close to $200 of my money and ran off with it (it was like $180 something).

PIssed at that time...I went on an internet spree, basically bad mouthing them.

...a year later...it's been a while since...I was on teh RAV4 forum. Weapon R rep tried selling it. I warned them...they emailed me personally asking me not to attack them (I said fine, but if I hear another Toyota owner that went through the same problem....I'll raise hell again!). Lo and behold, that's where I am today. My focus is with Toyota and Lexus only.

Basically I'm a disgruntled Weapon R customer.

Default My experience

I have tried to install this part and will try it again but I believe it is giving my MAF bad readings. It won't run with it on.
