Unhappy A/C Problem 1997 ES300

I just bought a used ES300. Drove for 1 week, took a trip 1 day, got in car 5 hours later and the a/c is not cooling. The compressors seems to kick on. Is this a problem with this model? What happened?

Have the R134a freon pressures checked and adjusted if needed by adding or removing the required amount to get the pressures right. Don't just add a can, as too much freon may leak a fitting in the evaporator under the dash; meaning an expensive repair.

The mid-90's ES models are notorious for having A/C problems caused by a sticking expansion valve. Your problems sound like those that occur when this part is failing.

This has been discussed numerous times. Do a search.

The expansion valve problem is exactly what happened to me and the symptoms you've described sound exactly like what was happening to me.

Any air conditioning downtime is a BAD thing in Texas. If you're in the Dallas area, PM me and I'll shoot you the contact information of our trusty Lexus repair shop. Good luck!
