My 96 ES300 had a CEL that said bad shift solenoid a few months ago, then the CEL went away and never came back. I thought maybe it was just a screw up. Recently I noticed that my ECT light automatically comes on. Is my transmission in danger or what? Car runs alright, do I need to change out the fluid/filter? Thanks.

Did you accidently push the button on the shifter? Easy way to tell, see if the transmission upshifts like it used to. I dont believe there would be a reason for the light to be on unless you pushed the button.

It comes on by itself.

Hmmm maybe bring it to the dealer and see if they can come up with a fault code? Does the car run or feel any different?

I also had the solenoid replaced on the ES awhile ago, but I don't seem to have that problem.......for me the ECT PWR light only comes on when I feel like revvin up that engine

mines came on the other day and i had it checked out and the only reason it was on was because when i took it to the car wash they pressed down the button next to the shifter

ECT comes on when you push the switch.
You pushed the switch, the switch is broken, or the wiring to it is broken.
