Default Windshield Leak

The top of my windshield leaks when it rains and I can no longer drive through car washes without getting my own shower. Yes- Its that bad.

Any suggestions as how to seal the windshield? Some type of caulk I could use to fill in the gap between the window seal and the roof? (Its rusting a little at that seal, so I'm sure thats why Its leaking.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cool

3M Window-weld Urethane.

It's realy good. Obviously it applies with a caulk gun. You'll probably waste a whole bunch. That's the stuff people make DIY engine / transmission / suspension poly mounts with too.

I had that 3M stuff in my hand and the guy at Autozone handed me this other little bottle of stuff and said it might work better than caulk. Its more of a liquid than a caulk and it hardens after an hour and you're done. Worked great.

To anyone else with a leakage problem, use Permatex Flowable Silicone for Wihdshields and Glass. Its clear, waterproof, and flows into cracks. Its awesome.

Great! I've been searching and searching for info on how to stop the leak from my windshield. Husband is concerned about the cosmetics of it...do you notice the sealant much?

I don't think hes gonna answer your question, he has been inactive for over a year...

But he said it was clear. So to answer your question about the cosmetics its probably not going to show too badly, since it is clear.

Well, I just happened to buy the stuff he recommended (before I read the post). Did it yesterday, as I was tired of waiting for my husband to do it and didn't feel like nagging him. I'm hopeful it will work...very easy stuff to use and I only made one little mistake...that I'm sure I can scrape off with a razor blade. Will let you know tomorrow if it sealed everything! I'm excited for the rain (for once).

I'm so bummed...I thought I had the leak fixed...it's raining now..and it's still damp, although not as bad as before. I guess I'll take it in to have it fixed

Well that suxs. Well if its any confort to you its a fast easy fix for a trained person and some of them do house calls. All they will do if cut out the winshield take out the old dry rotted sealant and reseal/set the winshield and your good as new.

Thanks, Choas. There's really only a couple of places in town here that do windshield leak diagnostics..and they are pricey. Gainesville isn't too large =)

I'm going to try to re-seal again and then I'll give up!
