Unhappy HELP!Screech sound, shredded metal

Well last night i began hearing a clanking sound so this morning i checked the engine out. the sound was coming from the 2 belts next to the alternator. they sounded as if they were touching at some point. then there was a loud screeching sound from the belts, but i didnt get to look at the belts when the sound occured because i was next to the drivers door so i just shut it off. the belts smelled like they burnt a little. so next with my sisters boyfriend i turned it on again and the clanging sound seemed to be back and a small shredded piece of thin metal flew out. about 4x2 cm.

Anybody know what happened and is it a bad enough problem that i shouldnt drive it?

Might need a photo of the piece that flew out.

2 belt next to the alternator.... could be pieces of your tensioner. highly doubt it though.. but if it is your whole belt could fly off any second.

sounds like a seized tensioner pulley.slight chance of seized acc.see if you can tell what belt has a different look to it(from the burning),if you can start the car one more time check to make sure your acc work.do you still have p/s?is the battery light on?does your a/c work?i would bet on the tensioner though

First i would take the belt off and check for play (manually with the car off) and loose bolts on all the pulleys (a/c, p/s, alternator, crank)

The crankshaft damper pulleys more likely cracked ?

You'll need to remove the right front tire to inspect.

The air conditioning condenser does not have a bearing ... The compressor, perhaps ?
