What tires do you folks like?
Hello,
Need to new tires for an ES.. 16" rims.
I do a lot of commuting in less than excellent weather, and certainly no racing, etc.
From reading the reviews on Tirerack.com, it seems like Goodyear TripleTread tires are as good as it gets for an all-season.
However, they only come in an H rating and not the V that's on the car now. Does this matter? (I rarely go much past 100mph.)
I noticed that GoodYear has a new tire, the ResponseEdge, that does come in V rating.... But, since it is so new, I can't find nay wintertime reviews for it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
David

H-rated tires are good up to 130mph, V up to 149mph. I wouldn't worry too much about the speed rating unless you do lots of aggressive driving. Plus at this time of year, soft rubber ain't gonna do you no good. Keep in mind, all-seasons remain a compromise between summer and wimter tires. Don't expect any all-season tire to do an exceptional job in the cold weather and snow.
I currently use the Yokohama AVS dB S2s right now which are V-rated all seasons. Good stuff, really sticky but wears a bit fast. And forget about winter traction........(unfortunately, don't have the budget to buy winter tires for two cars.......so the ES stays with the all-seasons)

I just bought and put on the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 tires and they are great. H-rated all-season tires, perform excellent in the rain (no hydroplaning, takes turns very well) and also in dry weather. Thing i like the most is that they are so much quieter than my old tires . Tires
I did a lot of searching last year about this time before deciding
on Nokian WR tires. They tout them as "all weather" vs. all season
and have been great in all weather. Has the snowflake on the sidewall
which indicates it's a little more like a winter tire.
Probably going to get a set for the wifes car.
Not sold through tire rack but their site has a dealer search.
Good luck. (no affiliation with Nokian)

I use them exclusively as a summer tire however, so again, I won't comment on the winter drive characteristics of the tire. But I will suggest that if you're in the market for a decent tire and a less expensive alternative to the MXV4's, this is it. And about the speed rating. I too was a little stressed about putting a lower speed rated tire on my car. But after a 30 day workout with the TT's, I was more than happy to take the oem's off. Great tire, absolutely solid. Hope this helps you out.
Cheers,
Vas

When I used to have my ES, the choice of tires was Toyo Proxes TPT. Great aggressive tread pattern, terrific all-season, excellent grip and good for rainy and wintry weather patterns. Then I switched to Bridgestone Turanza LS-H, and these yielded no problems at all
