Default 1989 ES250, should I think about buying?

Hey everyone, I was looking through the cheapie bin on Cars.com today, and I noticed something pretty impressive - a 1989 ES 250 (129,000mi) for only $775! With every good thing I've seen and heard about Lexus, my first thought was "does it stay good for that long?"

Guys, what do you think about this? Should I look into this car?

Thanks for your help!

Ethan

OMG, what a classic and only with 129k miles.
The car should last at least another 129k miles, you can't beat the price!

That's what I was thinking! Glad I asked; nothing like a bit of encouragement from people who really know their stuff

$800 is definitely worth it.. even if it barely works

parts for it are readily available at any junk yard

Cool

I honestly wouldn't touch anything pre '92 (3rd gen camry) Camry, or ES 250 with a 10 foot pole. And that's not against those cars. I'd try to get in a 92 camry. There was just too huge of a generation gap going from one platform in 91 to an entirely new platform in 92.

They really are just *that* much better. I can't state how night & day the changes are... I could post the spec sheet, but they're just in completely different leauges.

I just talked to the owner a couple minutes ago. The car starts and runs, and the only problem (besides a bit of cosmetic wheel-well rust) was something involving the power steering pump (didn't hear everything he said; both of us have crappy cell phone serivce ) but I think he said he was fixing that today. It's apparently never been in for major repairs, either.

I got all the parts you need out of my 90 es250 with 85K on the body and 40k on the motor minus all passanger body panels.
