Cool RED HOT EXHAUST!! Need Advice!!

I recently had a ck engine light come on with a miss and a BRIGHT RED exhaust manifold as accompanying symptoms. The number 6 coil and plug needed to be replaced, so I had it done. Now, the car is running like a champ, but the exhaust resonator still has a slight glow to it at night after I get home and pop the hood. I noticed that there is a factory installed heat-shield around the resonator and nothing else. This tells me that LEXUS knows that the resonator is going to get hotter than the rest of the exhaust, but how much hotter should it be?? I'm not sure a slight glow is what they were intending. Help if you can PLEASE!!!!!

It's really glowing red? Mine has never got that hot. It has been hot where if I put my hand at the end of the exhaust it burns a little but not that hot! Wierd.

It really got that hot, and not just the resonator when the coil was bad. . . . it was the whole dang manifold!!!! Now that I got the coil and plug repaired, it is just the resonator. P.S. nice ride!! i have the same one, but its a coach edition.

I think the leather interior was designed by Coach and it has some different leather, but not much from what I can see. There are some coach badges on the side of the car and the center console has coach on both sides of the lather cover on the armrest.

Cool

Your cat has burned out & is running around 900-1200*F. Change the cat & if the new one exhibits the same characteristics, it's because you've got weak spark on a cylinder, letting unburnt fuel burn in the exhaust. Or you've got a fuel injector absolutely dumping fuel into a cylinder. All gas vehicles have had catalytic converters since the 1970's man.

The emessions control system is generally warranteed for along time. Ask your service manager about it if you have a late model. If not... Have a custom, or performance oriented exhaust shop weld you a new, high-flowing Y-pipe together with a high-flow cat. Ouhta cust sub $400-500 bucks for quality work as opposed to around a grand for the absolute **** piece that come from the factory & robs alot of power. (y-pipe that is)

I think everything is good with my ride now!!!!!! I guess there was some left-over junk in the exhaust system that hadn't been coughed up yet. The glow went from bright red all over, to bright red resonator, to non-existant!!! I drove the car home from work tonight (25 miles), and pulled over to check the resonator every 6-7 miles, and there was no glow at all (I even pulled over in dark places on the highway in order to be able to see the glow better). I drove home yesterday, and after driving the car 1 mile the resonator was glowing. Today. . . . nothing. I will keep a close eye on the entire exhaust system over the next week, but for right now everything seems good. Do you have an opinion on this?

^^ So what did you do to make the exhaust manifold appear not red anymore? Fuel injector cleaner? Seafoam application?
