Default Tire suggestions? My stock 05' tires are bald at 17k miles!

I am new to this board but have been reading up for the past couple weeks. I own a 2005 ES 330 and at 17k miles, my stock toyo proxes are almost bald and need replacement. I do not drive aggressively but do mainly city driving. I made such a big stink with lexus that they offered to pay for half the price to replace my tires. I have two questions, is this the normal tire life for stock 05 rubber? (if yes, I will feel bad for hasslin lexus)

Second question, what kind of tire do you recommend? I dont need a high performance tire, just economical tires that will maintain the smooth ride and NOT HAVE EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE. (sorry I chose the wrong set of tires on my honda prelude and the road noise made me want to slash my tires and get new ones , Bridgestone potenza re730 )

I just want tires that will last longer than 17k that will ride smooth and quiet.

Thanks for any input!

Since u do a lot of city driving 17k doesnt sound too bad, but it should have lasted longer, reguardless of that i have dunlop sport a2's on my 2000 es300, they're rated A and AA in traction and wear and they dont cost too much, the drive is very quiet and smooth and i have no complaints about the handling. If i were u id get an alignment after i get the new tires on there just to be on the safe side of things and also to ensure maximum life on your new set of tires. goodluck man...

Bridgestone Turanza LS-V. Very quiet tire with good handling. You mentioned you had Bridgestones on your Honda before, but these are very good to me. Good luck with your future tire purchase.

I used to ride Toyo Proxes TPT and Bridgestone Turanza LS-H in my '01 ES. Both are pretty good tires, but the Toyos lasted a long while and have a nice aggressive tread pattern. The Bridgestone was pretty quiet and worked well in all-season conditions.

I've wore out a lot of Michelins but I took a gamble on Goodyear Assurance's ComforTred on my minivan because of the claims of quiet and Michelin discontinued the X One radial. They are a wide 55 series and ride smooth and very quiet!!! I traded off 3 set of tires on the ES300 before I purchased X Ones and they will be replaced in the spring with ComforTred's too

Cool

Goodyear Assurance by a wide mile. A very wide mile. A very, very very, wide mile. See here's the thing. There's only three primary tire companies on Earth. They own majority stock in every other company. Of all of them. Goodyear has spent billions more dollars in all time R&D than the other two.

So what you get into as a rule of thumb when compairing the big three. The equivilant Goodyear tire is going to cost the same, if not a hair more. And it's almost always a better trie in most regards.

Assuming the tires are mounted correctly, are pressurized correctly, and the alignment is correct & you drive them against other tires the same way.
Tire wear is purely dependant on how long they let the tire cure in the mould before they broke it open & the tire plant.

Picking tires is like picking performance items. Set a budget FIRST. Then buy the best tire that fits what you're willing to pay.

Default My 2 cents

I am currently using Yokohama Avid V4S on my '95 ES and highly recommend them for cornering, low noise, smooth ride, etc. Check the reviews on Tire Rack; I agree with owners' ratings of these tires. I had Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus and hated their cornering ability, they're also much more expensive. I also have Continental Conti Extreme Contact on a '97 ES; they're a little better than the Yokohama Avids on slick surfaces, but not as good on dry and they cost more. They also flat-spot badly; you have to drive a few miles before they feel round even in moderate temperatures. I won't be buying any more Contis. The Goodyear Assurance TripleTred is highly rated, but they cost significantly more than the Yokohamas and are only T or H speed rated; ES original equipment tires are V rated.

17k is the estimated tirewear for the toyo proxies i think. the michlens are a good choice either way you go, the MXV4 are very nice tires, but i think the pilots might be better off.
