The stock '01 radio should directly fit into your '97.

the 01 radio will fit directly in but it will not plug up, the wire harness is different, I already went through this 2 months ago, while trying to do all the 01 upgrades to a 97.

i even tried to just swap out the '01 wood face & put it on the 97 radio ...it doesnt fit either, circuit board is different inside & screws dont line up. also the LCD screen has different harness inside of radio (I dont see why they made so many changes with the same radio)

I think if u get the wire harness pigtails from the '01 radio u can cut the 97 harness & splice it with the '01 pigtail harness & it should work then
