I have worked it out ... your were right about the auto tilt guys!
when i switch it to the off position the auto tilt no longer works making it hard to get my knees passed the steering wheel when i get out.
Usually when i switch off the igintion the steering wheel pops up, then we i return it click back into its original place! Handy feature as I am tall.
