What Motor Oil do you use? Why?

Castrol Syntec 5-30 in the winter; 10-30 in the fall/summer... It loves it..
Its over $5 a quart but that stuff is amazing for my engine. It always comes out pretty clean, so clean in fact, that I decided to entend my LOF intervals to 4,000. Engine flushed when I got the car with 58K, and I dont even think it needed it... I was fortunate to find my baby was very well taken care of since it was new.... Regular oil changes go a long way in terms of keeping your engine happy

Mobil 1 because AMSOIL is too expensive and hard to find. And as for Royal Purple, does it really perform as much as it costs? Well, like earlier noted, Mobil 1 for its cost still performs. Don't mind the color thing. I just did it for fun.

Royal Purple actually kept my coolant temps down (and possibly my egt's) on my turbo talon. I wouldn't bother using it on a NA car. Any synthetic oil will offer better protection than conventional. I use Mobil 1 5-30w all year.

I voted Purple also coming from forced induction vehicles. However, researching comparison numbers makes Mobil 1 the logical choice based on performance, availability, and price. Just poured in 10W-30 M1 today.

boy this came back from the dead!? people must still be voting.
ugh ya it is hard to find.
wallmart has mobil 1 in flavors from super cheap supertech in 5 quart jugs for $6-7 dollars all the way up to top level mobil1 synthetic EP.
you can get 10 quarts of supertech for cheaper than shipping that mount of amsoil to your house. and you can get it any day you want, any time you want, and syn EP is still cheaper than AMSoil last time i looked. where-as shipping has lead times & is expencive compaired to driving to the ubermart.
for that matter you can get 5 quarts of synthetic supertech for the shipping cost sometimes lol
amsoil is most likely minutely better than top level mobil1. however it is more expencive, and not on any store shelf i know of. aint my car, and i have ran AMSoil in the past. however the benifits are almost nill, its more costly, and somewhat inconvienant.

No more GC here either. Thing I am using now is Liqui Moly 5W30. Eventually, I want to get some Redline 5W20 to test out.
Correction, 9/11/07, just switched back to green formula Castrol 0W30, now available at BMW here.

i used 10-30 castrol and it sounded good and everything
but my gas mileage has been not as good as it was... so does that have anything to do with it? or should i clean my fuel injectors?
and most people use 5-20? or 5-30 will 10-30 mess my engine up?

I use 5-30 Havoline Synthetic ,this oil is very underrated .It is made by a very good stock..I built 2 Jeeps One was a 02 Wrangler 4x4 with a PLug and play Hemi 375 HP, the other was a 98 Cherokee 4x4 with a LT1 325 HP...I used 10-30 Havoline Synthetic I do not see a very big difference between Havoline and Mobile 1 ...this is my wifes car it is a 1996 ES300 v6 I am just learning the ropes to these things.... Their 5w-20 has a Flash point of 460F, contains 490ppm of Moly and uses a Group II+ base stock. Probably the best bargain in oil right now. All their conventional oils contain the same add pack made by Oronite, Chevron's sister additive co. Good stuff. Have a look at the oil analysis reports on bobistheoilguy and you'll see why more are switching to those oils. They are going to be releasing a 5w-20 synthetic anytime now. One of the key reasons these oils do so well for the price is the fact that everything is done "in house". They make all their additives and if oil analysis is any indication of how good an oil is, Oronite knows what they are doing

I've been using Mobil 1 EP 5W-30 but I picked up 6 quarts of Amsoil ASL 5W-30 for my next oil change, and I'll probably be using this from this change forward. I use a Toyota filter as I don't do extended drains. This is in the LS400 pictured in my sig.

I use 5w-30 Toyota oil And A factory Toyota oil filter Its about the same price as the others I change it every 2500 miles and even at 2500 miles it still looks like cooking oil on the dip stick nice and yellowish. I dont see why I need to spend more money on other oils thats whats recommended in the manual.
