Unhappy I just used SeaFoam and ruined my car.

Guys I thought I would try and SeaFoam through my brake booster line. I did 1/3 a bottle like it says and sucked it up. Turned the car off and then started it up 5 minutes later. Now my check engine and trac light are on and the car is misfiring and idling like a dying horse. It makes me so sad this car was fine and now I have no clue what to do. I found out it has Bosch Platinum Plugs maybe thats the problem?

i think the rough idle is normal for a while. maybe those who have done this can chime in, i am only familiar with seafoam on older land cruisers. good luck.

it shouldnt be as bad as you explained it. hmmm... maybe fouled spark plugs? im not sure. ive used it on many cars and never had any bad experiences.

Is the car outside because if is cold you shouldn't have done the seafoam it could have done a varity of things from hydrolocking to simply flooding the engine

Ya it was like 20 degrees out but the car was all the way warmed up not cold cranked. Well its to late now. Taking it to my buddies shop to get the codes and see what they say, I am gonna pull the intake manifold and clean everything as well as new plugs. The engine is running now but super rough, missing and has the engine light on and the trac light on. I can't believe I did this.

The directions said 5 min, and that's what I did on my ES. Sure, it sputtered upon startup and had an unusual idle, then started sputtering the smoke like expected and idled pretty normally until I drove it off a few minutes later.

Did you put too much or did you put it in the wrong hose?

I unhooked the hose from the brake booster and sucked it through there. It's on the right, I disconnected it from the ufo circle lookin thing on the firewall. I only put in a third of a can.

I don't know what engine config you have, but mine was on the left side of the engine (aka the passenger seat side)............

SEAFOAM is designed to be put in s-l-o-w-l-y. This is done by taking a small vacuum line near the intake throttle plate. The big line from the brake booster will draw too much cleaner in too soon. I am sure that running it awhile will clean it out.

Looks like you will have to remove the spark plugs to clean it out. If the engine turns over, it is not hydrolocked.

My experience with Bosch Platinum plugs on Japanese engines has shown me that they are not that good. I use either the NGK or the NIPPONDENSO, which were designed for the car. I have also used TORQUEMASTERS in my engine, but never BOSCH. BOSCH is an excellent spark plug for GERMAN cars.

MAKE SURE that big vacuum line is reconnected correctly to the brake booster, and is not leaking. If there is a big enough leak there, the engine will never start.

Did you pour the cleaner into the line, or put the line into the can of SEAFOAM? To test that there is still vacuum there, remove the hose again and put your finger over the hole an attempt to start the car. You should feel the vacuum on the end of the line. This is the pistons drawing fuel and air into the bore through the intake valves.

Keep in touch and good luck.

I've been thinking about seafoaming my 2000 ES. Hopefully everything will go well and I wont have any problems but I hope your ride gets better bro. Phoneix would probably be the best person to talk to. He seems to know a great deal about the ES engine. You may want to shoot him a PM.
