Default Finally an easy, reversible door buzzer fix!

First off, thanks to Phoenix (aka Toysrme) for the post at LOC with the link to the Factory Service Manuals at PhatG20. You Rock Dude!
If you have an ES300 and a computer and have not downloaded this huge reference book (45megs) you should before you ask another question on this board. This IS the factory manual! Go get it!
It was a live link the day I posted this. You may need to cut and paste into your browser. It comes as a zip file to you.

There are many years available and I think the 1997 would be good through 2001.

Look on page 141 of the wiring diagrams section (I did a search for buzzer it’s the 5th one in the resulting list). Adobe is great with this.
The numbers on the pages do not coincide with the PDF page numbers, it is page 129 of the PDF and 141 at the bottom of the page shown.
There it says that the key reminder buzzer input is switched closed when the key is inserted through plastic connector U1. If you look at the chart towards the bottom it shows the location of U1 is given on page 29 but it is actually on book page 27 and PDF page 28. Turns out it’s on the ignition switch cylinder.
U1 is a 2 pin push on connector with a push to release lock tab.
It is attached to the Ignition switch assembly on the very end opposite the key hole. If you reach under the dash and feel the end of the switch assembly you can feel 2 connectors. One sticks up towards the windshield and one sticks down toward the gas pedal. The one that sticks down with small white and blue wires is the one we need to unplug, use a flashlight and mirror and you can see it. Pull it and it will never tell the integrated unit that the key has been inserted and the buzzer will not sound when you open the door with the key in. However the courtesy lights and everything else function normally.
The tough part is pushing in the lock tab to release it. The tab is on the side towards the key hole. I had to remove the screw that holds the lower part of the dash below the ignition switch and pop out the push in clips at the parting line near the switch then I could open the crack enough to use a 10 inch piece of coat hanger to push in the tab while I pulled on the connector from underneath. I suppose you could completely pull the lower panel to get to it but it is not necessary.
Start to finish was less than 15 minutes and I could do it again in 5.
It is a lot easier than installing a toggle switch as has been suggested here.
Good luck, Sorry, I wish I had taken pictures. It's not hard.
Maybe I'll be made a sticky.

The easy answer is: Pull the 2 wire (blue & white) connector from the back of the ignition switch assembly under the dash.
The key reminder buzzer will be the only thing disabled.

Hi Lex Pilot,

I downloaded the 1997 lexus es300 manual from the website, but I am having trouble viewing the content. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, havn't been on for a week or so.
Download the zip file to somewhere, (desktop). Double click it after creating a folder to unzip to. I made a folder "lexus FSM" in "my docs" When winzip asks where to put the unzipped files put them there. They are in PDF format seperated by chapters, like engine, electrical, suspension, etc.
You need Adobe reader to view them and search for terms.
Hope this helps,
