Es 300 (02) Better than the C class
Toyota reckons its all-new Windom, sold overseas as the Lexus ES300, is a better car than the Mercedes C-class.

First of all, Steve: You are one cool dude.
Second: Where can I get a "Sexus" badge?
Third: Of course the new ES will be better than the C-Class, IMHO (not counting performance).
Fourth: The linked page mentions a BEAMS engine; What the hell is it?
Fifth: Thanks for the post.

I think the 2002 ES300 is better. The only real downside to the ES300 is it's lack of performance-The C320 Mercedes is better in this respect, with better handling and faster acceleration. But at nearly a $36K starting figure in the US, and a loaded price of around $50K, the C320 is a genuine rip-off. The C-class is small outside, small inside and has basically the same features available as the ES300. And the ES300 is more luxurious, roomier and costs at max $40K-A bargain compared with the C320 in the states.
Lexus ES300 2002: A- Grade
Mercedes C320 2002: B- Grade
In my book.

I agree with skinny too, with another point. The C-class has a larger range in terms of price. A C-class can be bought at a much cheaper price than the ES3. The MB starts at $26K in the coupe form cheaper than any Lexus(the IS3 was supposed to start here when it was first thought to be sold in the US) and the Benz has a nicer over all look...

Ah, but for that cheaper price you also get a cheaper car. The C230 coupe is powered by a 4-cylinder with supercharger, has cheapened down interior trim, has minimal back seat space and has close to $16K in available options! WHo in their right mind would pay $40K for a hatchback with a 4-cylinder? Sure as hell, not me.
And yes, the C-class does have a broad price range anwhere from about $26K to $60K.
But the valid comparison is the C320 to the ES300. Similar power and similar base prices, albeit $4K difference in base cost.
