Talking my 1992 es 300

I just purchased a 1992 es 300 and love it. I have noticed that the steering is loose. Not in a unsafe loose I was wondering can i improve on this.

I read the email about the shocks and coils and was wounding if this is going to help on steering or just suspension.

any idea on how to improve this problem

After my suspension upgrade, my steering feel became more connected to the road and quite a bit tighter. Since I had the whole thing done at once, I can't point to the component SOLELY responsible for that. An educated guess tells me it's the higher performance bushings in the front end, combined with the strut tower brace, but again, I have no scientific, isolated proof.

so looking at the price you posted the upgrade in parts is about 500 dollars plus someone to install. so around 700 dollars. Is the upgrade something that you are glad you did, or could have you have a better rate of return upgraded another part of your car?
thanks

Updates on suspension progress.

I am still researching suspensions and havent' ordered the springs from Whitelines due to:

- Expected arrival of my son - ANYTIME NOW !!!
- Complete black interior to change over ASAP (in 2 days)
- Delays up to 4 weeks for delivery.
- Parts No. obtained from here is on their list, but not sure if it is the right 1 for 93 ES300. (they will not take the springs back if it dont fit).
- There are other springs available NOW - King / Pedders (Oz manufacturer)
--------------
Shocks are still being look into:
Koni - $100 more for each
Monroe - cheap, too good to be true. (Oz Manufacturer)
KYB - reputations & reasonable priced. (are they any good ??)

KYB gas absorber NEW part numbers for 1993 ES300 are :
Excel-G Twin Tube Gas Shock

Front Rear
Left 334477 334479
Right 334476 334478

Things are very hectix right now ... dont know if i will ever get the time to decide...will post pixs when car is lowered and hopefully black interior will already be in.

so it a longer process to do some upgrade since the es 300 is an older car and the part seen a little hard to come by. Did you invest alot of money to buy your es? i got my for $3900 I was thinking to sink $2500 so it would look and feel like a 1999. I check out those things you posted
thanks

That one's been answered nicely on the first page in this thread...right in post #39. The short answer is "no stock struts with performance springs," and if you want to know the why, read that post.
Most "stock" struts were Gabriel.

I do notice they break up the model years strangely. They even list the ES250 as 90-92 (not included in the screen clip above). That's the fun part - even if you CALLED them to "make sure" the phone rep would likely be reading from the same parts catalogue that's available online. To make it worse, the vendor you buy the KYBs from overlays their own parts catalog numbering (likely also poorly maintained).

Please inform us of the parts you end up with and fitment?
I did get the KYB's indicated for the 93 models and they fit just fine. One important thing to note: There is a lower seat bearing that needs to be taken off the stock strut and placed onto the new strut assembly. This "lower plate" will be the lower spring seat for the front struts. It is secured by a screw, in which, you simply remove and install onto the new strut. The rear struts work as is.

For all important sakes, just get the 95-96 models IF you have a 92-94 models. These come with a full size lower spring seat for your front struts.

Pictures to come soon. Also put 15mm spacers in the rear, fronts did not need spacers with my 17x7 235-45 rims/tires.

So you are saying that I should order the KYB GR-2 struts for a 95-95 model even though I have a 94......

Ok i also am thinking about lowering my 92 es but am wondering about the best way to go about it. Coilovers seem to be the easiest way to go, but its seems to be difficult to find a good set for my car. Anyone know which options are best, hidden costs, and or suggested maintainance while in the process?? Please someone help me out here, im lost on what to do.

Gotcha, did you change the strut mounts when you did the struts?
