93 ES300 Tranny shot....
That's right my 93 ES300 tranny is shot! I blame the previous owners for this. For all of you lexus owners out there...For the love of god DO NOT EVER LET YOUR FLUID GET DARK BROWN, stick to a strict maintanence schedule. Keep up with all of your fluids, and CHANGE THEM! When I got the car the ps fluid was never changed for the whole 130k miles the owner had the car, and the transmission had already been rebuilt once (gee I wonder why ). I got 200k out of this car....Time for another ES300. I loved that car
P.S. The shop I have it at wants beween $2,200 and $2,500 to install a remanufactured tranny in my car...

First - my condolences.
Second - some suggestions from a pro I read:
If you love your ES, and want to keep it, have some fun and pick up Pheonix's suggestions (especially the one I underlined).
Second - some suggestions from a pro I read:
Adjust your kick-down cable if you have one.
Adjust your valve body pressure via the valve body pressure solenoid if you have a later transmission.
Install a better, higher stall torque convertor.
Have your valve body upgraded.
Rebuild your transmission with IPT's raybestos blue plate special option if you're holding big power.
Swap your differential for the Camry SE v6's hidden option 3.717 final drive.
Do the E53 M/T swap, light weigh flywheel, good clutch & pressure plate.
Have an aftermarket LSD machined into your differential, or swap over the MR2/Celica E153's 4.14 differential with optional limited slip.

97 ES300. 200k miles on mine. I am on my 3rd tranny. And I did the regular maintenance on it. They won't last forever.
The 6SP and 8SP trannys are going to cost a lot to fix or replace. My guess is $6-$8k.
$2500 is cheap.

I would assume you're telling me these aren't the best tranny's out there...200k and on your third...For some reason that doesn't sound normal to me, then again, I've never driven a car to this mileage either...

UNless you get a new one, the rebuilt trannys are always suspect. If I paid for a new one at 120k, I would most likely still be using it.

Sorry to hear that dude.
I have more than 205K on the original tranny, and it ran with the same fluid for the first 200k miles (previous owner), so I DO think those are good trannies.
2500$ is fine if you like the car.

I've thought about it, and I'm going to dish out the cash to get the tranny rebuilt under ONE major condition. They use Amsoil Synthetic ATF for the tranny fluid....
