Does anyone know if the speedometer will get crazy?

I had deep dish rims on my Toyota. The speedometer was showing 50 when I was really doing 35.

Default twankies

I have 18's on mine as shown in the gallery and it seems to me that I could easily fit 20's on mine i have like 3 inches of room in the front and like 1.5 in the back with the stereo. But I have 215/35 tires and they are 7.5 wide. 20's are like 8.5 wide that may be what would keep them from fitting.

The largest wheels you can run on an ES is 19's, that is of course, without major modification. I know that with 18's on an ES with factory suspension, there is alot of wheelgap-the reason why I slammed the crap out of mine. The problem is the struts. The lower spring cup on the strut is located above the wheels, thus limiting the room to "grow". This problem is especially evident in the rear. I modified my struts to install hydraulics, so I don't have this spring cup any longer, but I had to cut out too much of the fender wells just to tuck the 18's I have, so I didn't bother running a larger wheel.

Oh, and yes, your speedometer will be off. If you run a wheel that is larger than factory (overall diameter), then your car will be traveling at a higher rate of speed than your speedometer indicates. And the faster you go, the more the calibration will be off.

Bolt them on. That is, nothing at all. If you're not going to lower the car at all, I would recommend running a 225/40/18 tire just to minimize the wheel well gap.

I don't want to lower my car at allor have rubbing problems or speedometer problems. Will that happen if I use those size tires and 18's?

You will not have rubbing problems with the correct offset wheel of this size. Make sure you stick to an 18x7 or 18x7 1/2 wheel-not 18x8. As for the speedometer, with that size tire on my ES, it didn't throw off the calibration at all. What size are your stock tires on your ES? If they are 205/65/15's, then 225/40/18's should work perfect.

20's will fit the ES with a stock suspension, I know 2 guys with 20's on 92-96 ES300's without any mods. Just get the lowest profile tire available in 20" and it looks sweet. But im sure ur speedo will be a lil off.

Hey lexpusher, it is possible to achieve the look you have on that pic with lowering springs? Or something close to that? How many inches would you say that is lowered?

Like Supwithyou said, no...not possible. My drop is between 5 and 6 inches in the pic shown above.
