ES300: Replacing Cluster Backlighting Bulbs
#211
Hello everyone, it is good to see that the responses are still somehow recent and I'm hoping for a response, suggestion.
I just got my 92 ES300, I had the same issue with the cluster, the only thing i would see is the RPM numbers and nothing else. I replaced the light bulbs with the regular light bulbs (#74) as instructed in the documentation and my cluster is not light up so nicely. I can see all the numbers for RPM, spedometer and both their needles are nice and bright, but I don't see the temp nor the gas needle or background... is there another set of lightbulbs for those? or anything else I am missing?
Thank you.

There are 8 bulbs for backlighting and 74 is not the right bulb. 24 is the correct bulb.

I want to replace the bulbs in my 1999 Luxus ES. Does anyone know if these are the same bulbs that also light up the warning lights on the dash? My "check engine" light doesn't light up so I'm hoping this fixes it.
#218
Nope, different. We have them. Call to order.

I've gone thru the proper steps to replace the check engine light bulb now gauges are
I have gone thru the proper steps to replace the check engine light bulb in my lx470 1999 cluster .
(And yes I'm pretty sure all was done properly as I do rebuild and refurb laptops so familiar with this type of detailed repair)
But when I put it back in the gauge lights and needles don't light up now.
What did I do wrong?
I lowered the steering wheel then disconnected the n side of the battery terminal. Took out the dash instrument cluster carefully removed screws and replaced bulb and put it back together. Then returned it to the dash and lined up and screwed in connected screws put panel back and reconnected the n on battery.
Turned on ignition and back lights and needles did not light up. Is there some reset button on the unit or ?
What should I do next?
Help!! Please!

Okay so the first time I replaced the backlight LED's I only put half of them in in the right polarity, there is now a bigger issue. I went back in, and now I'm very grateful; they all work correctly. On the flip side, the dash lights and night time lights only are on... when the headlights are off. and vice-versa, when I turn the headlights on, the dash lights turn off. How could I have done this, and how can I fix it?

Is it ok to drive the car without the gauge cluster installed?
Will anything be damaged or not work properly when the cluster is back in?
I read through all 15 pages and didn't see anything specific about this other than there will be an airbag code that will have to be cleared when the cluster is re-installed.

Difficulty disconnecting right side wiring harness
LEXUCAN, pursuing the instructions above to replace the backlights on my 1995 ES-300 instrument cluster,
I've gotten the small left-side wiring harness disconnected twice now.
But the right-side harness has no slack in its feed to the quick disconnect plug/jack assembly.
I've tried bent-nose pliers, bent-nose hemostats, a rubber-cushioned hemostat--all in an attempt
to unjigger the plug from the jack within the very tight space between the bezel and the dash; No dice.
Is there some way to loosen up the cable group coming from up in the dash, so as to give me more work room?
Thank you,
Noob hcasano
