rough idle after plug and wire change
i changed the plugs and wires on my 97 es300 and now i have a check engine light and rough idle. i figured didn't get a wire on good or something but i have troubleshooted this to death. after doing the front 3 plugs, i started the engine and everything was fine. after the back 3 was when the problem developed. i checked and rechecked everything. even went as far as putting the stock plugs and wires back on and i still have this problem. i figured i knocked a vacuum line loose or something but everything seems to be alright. anyone have any ideas of what else to check? what about coil pack to plug sequence? doesn't the first coil pack on the left run the first plug on the left in the back and the one on the right runs the plug on the back right? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

reset ecu. by taking off battery for 15mins or so. or you can reset by taking off the fuse under the hood. should be ECU something. if this doesn't eliminate the check engine light then there must be a wire you touch some where under the engine compartment.
for rough idle. is the spark seqence in order?.
also check wires connected to distributor.
as in rough.. what do you mean? shaking? knocking? dying out?
i hope this help.

First of all, a '97 with a 1MZ does not have a distributor.
Second use ONLY Denso or NGK plugs
Your check engine light is problably a misfire code.. PO30whatever. Each coil pack fires each plug so make sure all 6 coils are plugged back in. Its real easy to miss one
If after this its still missing, get a scan tool and see which cylinder is not firing and check the coil... Hope this helps And I cant strees enough, DENSO OR NGK ONLY!!

i took the car to autozone to get it scanned. it came back as a p0300 1-6. misfiring on all cylinders but 2. this is after i went back to stock plugs and wires. it isn't even drivable. it will sputter and backfire even which would make sense. i have tried so many things and switched around the coil packs and plug sequence...can someone please verify which coil pack runs which plug in the rear? it will idle really low and sputter but is much worse when in any gear or when driving. is there some certain way you are supposed to put the coil packs on to make sure they are making a good connection. i tried starting the car several times with each individual coil pack unplugged and i was getting spark on them so i don't think that is it. thanks again

Im confused... Are we talking about the same engine? A 1MZ has 6 individual coils for each plug but youre talking about wires too? WTF?!??!?!!!! There are no wires.

Okay ive only seen them with 6 coils for each plug but the firing order for all Toyota V6s is 1-2-3-4-5-6.
Looking at belt-side of engine (front) Left bank is 1-3-5 front to back, Right bank is 2-4-6 front to back. Cant really help w/out seeing it, but the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6
