Lexus Dealers vs. Toyota Dealers Poll

Why take it to lexus when the bill for an oil change would be over 100$? All in all I only take my car to lexus for timing belt and serious issues. They overcharge completely even though they are specified only for lexus.

I bet some of these guys who are getting raped by going to lexus for all their maintenance/service are putting regular gasoline in their car to save money. lol.
Talk about hypocritical.

Not sure how to vote. It's either "Do it myself" or "Toyota dealer". I hand the car off to one of my brother-in-laws. They're both Toyota mechanics so the car ends up at a Toyota dealership. Just not on the books.

I just got my car back yesterday after my 96,000km checkup; changed all fluids, filters, rotates, brake cleaning and lube etc. I got the bill back expecting a lot less, total $700 !!! I was expecting about half that but the labor just killed me. I would expect a surgeon tuning my car for the amount they charged. Just under $500 for the labor! I was surprised. Now the car has never given me any major problems, so i spend only what i do on preventative measures. So maybe $700 isn't so hard to take over the long run, but over the short run, jesus, that's a hit. And, unfortunately, where i live there are no reputable garages that do foreign car service. Like for example some shops that have the ex-dealer mechanics that start their own businesses. I guess i'll have to start learning, as i often do from CL, how to start doing at least the fluid changes and less intense work on my own. I think Toyota is going to be getting my next visits otherwise.

I do my own service with limits. Fluid changes, brakes, etc. I am considering doing the timing belt on my LS with water pump, thermo stat, etc. Probably cost me $500 in parts and save at least that much in labor. My nearby Toyota and Lexus dealers are owned by the same person and used to share the same property. They have grown so much that they separated about three years ago but still have the same owner.
I recently bought one gallon of red coolant from toyota at $19.00. The trans pan gasket from Toyota for the ES cost me $21.00! Toyota dealer with Lexus pricing. I think I'll have to do more shopping online for items that don't weigh too much!
