Default Aftermarket struts?

Hello all. 1st post. I just bought a 1997 ES300 and my mechanic says it needs rear struts. Before I went ahead I wanted to ask if anyone has had to replace their rear struts and whether they thought going with an aftermarket product like a Monroe was ok or if this is an item worth paying more to have the dealer do with original Lexus parts or maybe buy the parts from the dealer and have your own mechanic put them in? Thoughts?

if you like the cars ride quality as is, go with OEM for sure. Aftermarket will never be as plush as what comes in the car.

On the other hand, if you want to feel more of the road, or are ever thinking about lowering the car, go aftermarket.

Go KYB! it's pretty much oem. In fact KYB makes a lot of oem struts (not on lexus I think??) They're cheap and effective. Only $66 from tirerack.

I saw those and I was wondering about them. That could be the way to go thanks much.

Anyone else used KYB before?

I had KYB GR2's on my 2000 ES and they ride pretty darn close to stock. You can barely tell the difference if you use the stock springs.
