Default What are rockers?

My mechanic says that oil is leaking from both rocker cover gaskets of my 92 Windom. I searched the Lexus ES300 FSM but can't find any reference to "rocker". Are "rockers" something that is in Windom but not the ES300?

Your mechanic is a dumb***. The only rockers on a Toyota are the lift points. He probably means valve cover gaskets are leaking. The V6 engine is a dual overhead cam design with 4 valves per cylinder and they incorporate hydraulic valve lifters with shim buckets for adjustment. There are no rockers.

Cool

No his mechaninc meant valve covers cuz hes probably old school and is used to working on GM crap. GM V6s are OHV design and they have rockers. Its 2007 and GM still cant engineer a DOHC V6 (with a few exceptions) Nevermind design an engine with an intake manifold that dosent leak horrifically.

Hmmm...I'd say you just MIGHT be in the "Never buy GM products!" camp.
Of course, maybe I just misread the tone of your post...

I didn't get the impression your post was rude....it just stated facts, IMHO!
I'm with Toyota all the way myself. If you want to get totally ticked off by dumb, ignorant comments about Toyota products, go read any of the reviews at thetruthaboutcars.com
They have a hate-on for anything Toyota that is hard to comprehend.

I hate to jump in late on this to stick up for GM but between my lexi's I had a 94 Saturn SL2 straight 4 DOHC. I put that car through hell baddd I ran it out of oil 3 times and raced (LOL) it regularly and she still runs. I do agree I get into the lets just bash Toyota argument all the time I simply have to ask what car was cnet's first perfect 10 car ohhh it was the Lexus ls460. Then you always have to lead into how many times the Camry was the car of the year and don't forget to ask how often they see underneath their Ford (I know I did 96 mustang LOL)

Thanks. So it's valve cover gaskets. I was quoted 5 hours labour to replace them. Does it take this long or is the mechanic trying to pull a fast one on me?

Thanks. Do you think it is OK to delay repairing the valve gasket leaks if they are not dripping oil on the ground yet? Do these gaskets have a tendency to fail all of a sudden and start gushing oil all over or would the leaks just increase gradually?

At the moment, I'm checking dipstick levels once a week and don't notice any drop yet. And I don't have any burnt oil smell in the cabin.

Yea i'm pretty sure it should be ok just don't push your car and keep checking your oil. Still don't put it off to long it really needs to get fixed.
