Yes you should change the tranny fluid only if its not too burnt. I dont know what year your car is but it probably takes Toyota Type III or Type IV if its an Automatic. It tells you right on the dipstick. Use only Toyota ATF whatever you do.

I wouldnt mess with the shifter though; just let it ride, as long as it shifts than thats all that matters.

Flush the fluid.
The shifter is glued with sugar from spilled drinks. Take the console apart & clean it.
Eventually sugar will errode all the electrical contacts away inside the console & you'll wonder why suddenly you can't shift gears hah.

Default Check engine(transmission)light

I have a 2000 Lexus ES300 with 92,000 miles. The check engine light came on and I took it to my Lexus dealer for a workup. After they charged me $126.82 and cleared the code I was told that they weren't sure why the light was on. The code indicated 90176 P0768 Solenoid Valve S4. The service cosultant said that if the light came back on I may need to have the valve body replaced at an estimated cost of $1,500. The car seems to be running fine and I haven't noticed any hesitation in the transmission. Does anybody have any suggestions?
