Sometimes this is caused by oxidation in the bulb sockets. I had a similar problem in my '94 ES and I stopped this triggering of the dashboard light by removing each tail light bulb and cleaned out the sockets with a contact cleaner. It was a PITA......but it worked.

I though all of my bulbs worked two but only one of the center brake lights was working and there are two in the little thing. Check that and make sure both of the two bulbs in the center, high mounted brake light housing.

The fact that your warning light goes on and off rather than coming on and staying on indicates that it is likely a bad bulb to socket connection as amf1932 suggests and not necessarily a burnt out bulb. The last time I changed some taillight bulbs I noticed a bit of corrision in a few of the sockets. Not enough to trigger the warning light, but I figured I'd better clean them up before the dash light began to start flickering on and off.

If im not mistaken, places like Autozone sells the non-conductive grease-type stuff you can coat the sockets with to guard from corrosion.
I also had the instrument light that came off and on because it was a brake light out. It resets everytime you turn the car off and comes back on the first time you use the brake.
