Default Cromed front grill

Hi Guys

I am thinking of croming the front grill of My ES... does anyone know if anyone has done this before and is there any pics of it?

I wanna make sure it looks cool first before dipping it!

Also what is the front grill made of? Certainly aint plastic

cheers

Some members already chromed their GS front grill. Try to search it under GS section.

You need to purchase the chrome tape (or something like that) and take your time to put it on.

iwas thinking of having it sand blasted and actually dipped in crome... there is a company near me that do croming.. not sure wether they will do it for me as it will be such a small job for them... we used to dip our bicycles many years ago... looked real cool.

I think it will suit having the front grill done.. as they are a few cromed bits on the ES i think the grill would look more plush with it cromed.

All depends on how friendly you an get with them... (not like that ) but i guess if you offered cash they would do it on a quiet period.

Though i guess if you prepared it and removed all the paint and stripped it bare they could just dip it for you.

I reckon the ES should have had a cromed front grill in the first place....

I took a look at the front grill to see how easy it was to get off and it looks real simple to remove... so I a gonna remove mine next week and chrome it.

I wonder if putting the lexus logo on the chrome grill would look nice?

it would be different

Here are the choices Chrome, Nickel, Gold and Zinc and they can do this onto Die Cast which i guess is what the grill is made of

Default WHOA! Hold up everyone!

Before you go spending money to chrome your grilles I would try this first. Get some nailpolish remover and try and take the colored portion off with that. Some of the GS guys found out that LEXUS actually put a chrome grille on the GS and then painted it black. Look to see if you have any stone chips on your grille, you may be as surprised as all of us GS owners to find chrome already underneath the black paint. Several guys have successfully done this - saw it first hand at the CT meet yesterday. Where were the ES guys????...next time.

Check for the post(s) from xsuperjoex, he's go tsome good instruction on how to do it.

yeah.. i shall do some effects on the computer tommorow to see if i like the result... if it suits then i shall go ahead and chrome it. Found some local companies that specialise in chroming motorcycle parts.. so one small grill should be ok. Just trying to think of anything else that i would like chromed.

Hi. I just noticed this on ebay. The seller also has a chrome grill for the 2000-2001 model. This one is for the 97-99 es. Hope this helps

Let me know if this works for you if you get it. Also the year of your car and any other mods you have. I have a 93 manual and would like to do this if it fits and hopefully some other things but need money right now so it will be a while. Anyway, good luck and thanks

yeah i will weigh up which is a cheaper way to do it... i know there is different types of chrome to choose from if I have mine done by a company.

If it works out cheaper to buy then I will see if they have a grill for a 92 model.

I bet the Manual version ES is nice? very rare i hear?

In regards to the GS chromed grills I tried to see if the ES has chrome underneath the paint and I am unhappy to say NO it hasnt... I stripped a small piece of paint from the back of my grill and found out that is was just metal.

All i need to know now is what kind of metal is it.... I found it to be a soft metal and was wondering if it was alloy.. does anyone know?

Or is it Cast metal?
