Default tackle the timing belt

Well this weekend I will be installing my timing belt, water pump, idler, and tensioner pulleys for my 93ES300... I have all the parts, and downloaded a manual... I also had to make a type of spanner wrench to hold the cam gears and crank from turning when loosening and tightening the pulleys... Now all I need is a day off...

Well I had to make a second spanner wrench for the crank... I made it out of the same materials exept for the 2 bolts were 5/16" dia. by 1" long... I smeared a little engine grease from the oil pan on the front of the crank pulley and pressed a sheet of paper to the front of the pulley to give me the location of the bolt holes... here is a pic of the plate before cutting it out and drilling the second hole... also have to weld the handle on and the bolts in the holes...

Let me know how easy or hard is to change timing belt and water pump. I have a same car and thinking about doing a job but I hear V6 is lot harder than 4-cylinder like 97 Camry(my other car). If you can write up a DIY instruction would be great Good Luck!

Well I hate to admit defeat... however the crank bolt kicked my butt... 3 feet of breaker bar nada... towed the car to friends shop $60... We tried impact guns 1/2" and 1" nada... I can say the spanner wrench worked perfectly lol... I did however replace the waterpump and idler pulley and changed all the plugs thanks to the diy write up by lig the combination of extensions and swivels worked perfectly

Yea mine was like that. I sprayed some PB Blaster on the crank bolt than used a 1/2" impact and burped it in the forward direction and back about 5 times or so and it came off.

Cool

I just jam a breaker bar against the ground & tap the starter one time as shortly as possible.
1.1kw electric motor geared down a ton > impact driver lol! Besides. If you were to ever stall the electric motor anyways, it'd generate 3-4x it's typical torque output @ 0rpm.

Anyways. Nice job fabricating tools!

Sounds like you have done that a few times... I sure would like to get that bolt out... I have 15 yrs of auto repair under my belt so its very hard for me to succumb to the dealer... Its always nice to learn a new trick... I will give it a try thanks...
