Default bad mpg??!?

Hey guys, i wanted to test to see how much mpg my 00 es300, so i filled up the tank. I drove until the gas light came on, over 90% was driven on the streets, so the tank went for 270miles, is this good mpg? I heard the gas tank holds 18.5 gallons, so I assumed the gas light goes on maybe with 1 gallon left?? so i calculated it and its 15.4 mpg , is this true???! someone with some info on mpg or the tank size help me out...Thanks in advance

you should calculate the number of gallons you put in divided by the miles you drove.

you should calculate the number of gallons you put in divided by the miles you drove.

that's probably the best way to do it. For now, according to the car, I am averaging about 22-23 mpg. When I do alot of street, it gets down to 21mpg. I have an 02 ES300 with 60K.

I have 150k on my 2000 ES300 and I get about 25-26mpg when I drive on the freeway. In the city, I get about 21 to 22. On a side note, my parents 97 ES300 with 170k gets almost 27 on the freeway.

its the cold start up that really kills my mileage

Especially since the lights come on with 2-2.5gallons left in the tank.
Most people don't run their car down enough to put 16 gallons in the tank anyways.

My 2000ES (with 85K miles) gave 28 mpg on my last highway drive (300 miles each way). I though it is a good number for a V6 engine.

I might be wrong but your tank only holds 16.5 gallons and your light comes on at 2-2.5 gallons so you only used up 13.5 to 14 gallons of fuel. If my math is correct thats an average of 20mpg. Its not bad for mostly city driving but it can be better! I would suggest you do a couple of treatments of autorx. Go to www.auto-rx.com and do 2 treatments with the directions on the bottle. I bet it will help your MPG's.
