In NY amber is for the front turn signal and amber or red for the rear turn signal. I had front and rear white turn signal, with front white bumper lights and white front side marker lights and of course the super white headlight bulb on my honda prelude. I drove around a few months and passed many police officer. One night a police officer thought my headlight was too bright and give me 5-6 tickets. he also give me one for expired insurance card because I give him the wrong one. This was a big shocker to me because I was just expecting one ticket for the headlight. all the ticket was reduced by the judge and the insurance ticket was dismiss.
the ticket was for each bulb
the ticket was for each bulb

Living in Va, you know just about EVERYTHING is illegal there, so why put yourself through all of the grief and aggrivation. While some of the Va state troopers may be cool, if you live anywhere near Fairfax County (you know Fairfax County Police can be some real winners), just make sure that you have bail money available after they pull you over and FIND MANY things illegal about your car. Just get the silver coated bulbs that light up amber when you turn on the blinkers. You will be alot happier and less troubled this way. Bottom line is DONT DO IT!!!!

LED bulbs burn out rather quickly when used as turn signals if not used in conjunction with a resistor. Because of the pulsating on/off of power.
I agree with the silver coated amber bulb suggestion. Wayyy less hassle and still provides a clean look.
