Arrow Changing The Oil Filter?

I'm fairly new (about a month now) to Club Lexus and I finally think I can get an answer to my question. For six years now, every time I change the oil filter oil will spill out of it because of the angle it is at. I put paper and stuff to absorb the oil ahead of time. Is there another way to do this without having to make it that complicated and messy.

i take it the oil is already drained from you ES and you change the oil filter when the engine is empty.

Let the sump drain for about an hour... the oil needs to be nice and warm to it is thin... after an hour you should be able to change the filter without too much mess.

I always have a kitty litter tray with absorbant cat litter rock... not sure what you call it there... anyway, this will soak up any spillages and easy to dispose of.

I dont have much spill out of the oil filter with mine if hardly any.

Some people will drain the oil from the pan first, start the car a a couple times (enough start the starter before it turns over) and this usually lets the remaining oil out. I've tried it before and I haven't had problems. If you don't feel comfortable with this method, let it sit for an hour like Steve mentioned. I have a 1MZ-FE V6 and I dread that part of the oil change. Oh well!
