Default Strange trunk release problem

Hey Yaw!

I have a 94 ES300 with Avital Remote start and alarm with keyless entry and trunk release. Avital is made by DEI.

So here's my problem.

When I use the remote trunk release obviously it doesn't work or on occasion it'll work. When it doesn't work I try and press the trunk release from inside the car. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't work. When this doesn't work, I press the gas cover release button and then press the trunk release button from inside the car and then it works.

When the trunk release button inside the car works and I close the trunk then try it with the trunk release from my remote it then works with no problem.

This issue started happening within the last month or 2. I've had the alarm/car starter installed over 2 years ago and the trunk release worked all the time with no issues.

Any thoughts?

Weird... sometimes when I try to open my trunk via the button it won't work unless I hit the gas cover first. I thought it was just the switch itself was wearing out or something. Guess not.

Definitely an odd problem but I've never had it not open at all. Hopefully someone here knows whats up!

I thought there might be a relay that the 2 circuits share but no...

This is really a nuisance. Good thing I don't use it very often.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? My trunk release will not work from inside the car but will work from the key. Gas filler door opens up no problem from inside. Do I just need a new switch?

Make sure the trunk release button in your glovebox is pressed down!

Default Trunk Release

Wow! Have a '95 ES and thought I was the only person who needs to push the gas cover opener on the door before I press the trunk opener button to get the trunk to open half the time. Am anxiously waiting to determine why others think (or know) this is happening.

94 es300, and I have the same problem exactly as described. I bought a new switch and the problem still persists, I cleaned out the switch with contact cleaner and still the problem persists.

Now what I have found is that if the trunk doesn't release but I put the key in the ignition the trunk will release. I think it has something to do with powering the relay into the trunk. The exact problem persisted with the new and the old, original part...and both were fixed when I put the key in the ignition.

ANY FIXES PEOPLE?

Wow, I can't believe a 1 yr old thread got revived. hahaha

Good to know that folks are using the search function.

Try pressing the trunk release button in the glove compartment. Sometimes when I have the issue of the trunk release button not work on the door panel I push the button in the glove box to lock it and then press it again to unlock it and that seems to do the trick.
