hi all, don't really post that much, but i find this forum really helpful. I have a 98 es300 and I've searched around and see that its a good idea to change the strut mounts as well in order to get rid of that clanking noise. Does anyone know if its just the front mounts that are needed? I'm planning to do this work myself so i guess i could check to see if they're worn out, but i don't want to change them if i don't need to. Oh and should i change the strut bearings for the front as well? thanks

You would change whichever one is making noise, in pairs... If you want to check them all, put it on a lift (or jack up each corner) and force the wheel up and see if there is play.

how many miles are on it. my guess is that its time is close anyways. might aas well save yourself the hassle and do all 4 at the same time. its not hard, but it definetely is not easy. just make sure you read a lot. in general all shock/strut changes will require a spring compressor. do it right, and be safe.

yeah my ES is doing the same...I dont think Ill be doing the work myself though, how much do you guys think it would cost to replace the strut mounts. I only hear a clanking noise on the front passenger's side and no where else
