Is it a 2 core like the original??? Probably not, most cheap replacement radiators are single row... you should have your original rodded out... and check for bad head gaskets have a leak down test done... dont waste alot of time and money like I did... Had I done a leak down test it would saved me LOTS of grief

With very little area for air to get to the radiator on these cars, they need as much cooling capacity as they can get. Like esucaris1 said, most aftermarket replacement rads are cheaply made and they provide insufficient cooling. I had one on my ES when I bought it and I replaced it with a new aluminum core Toyota OEM radiator. More expensive but much better in the long run.
Put it this way - it's much cheaper than replacing a head gasket...

its a pressure test similar to a compression test exept the guage tells how rapidly a cylinder loses pressure indicating a problem area... if there is a problem there should be some visible bubbling in the waterneck... make some calls and get a few quotes... dont settle for a compression test...

A compression test is cheap. A leak down test will be more expensive b/c the spark plugs have to be removed first = more labor time. But with the leak down test, the problem area/s can be much better diagnosed.

I'm curious about something - if ta1972 does have a leak in his head gasket, could doing a leak down test make the leak worse by forcing compressed air into the cylinders?

No not at all... combustion conditions are much harder on the gaskets... besides if there is a problem it would make sense to take care of the problem asap...
