Thats weird, my fogs come on with my low beams.
Anyways, Light output actually DECREASES with the silver star lamps because it has a coating on the bulb that decreases output.
I bought my (chinese) HID kit on ebay for $135 and its been working flawlessly for almost a year.

I don't know about the H7s, but the 9006s were not that much of anything. The color may be changed but brightness wasn't all that. That's why HIDs was the only option for me to achieve higher output of light... also because I wanted the color without losing light to a filter like the halogens.

If you do the 9005 conversion mod on the silverstar highbeams (which don't have the coated cap on the tip) you can use em as your lowbeams and the light output is about 70% brighter than your typical halogen lowbeam bulbs. I couldn't believe the difference in lowbeam light output after I did the mod.

To make sure I understand you - after this 9005 conversion you're able to drive around with all 4 headlamps on at once? If so, that's interesting and I'll have to search for "9005 conversion."

The modification: you can use your old high beams, or go buy 9005 silverstars. Then you could modify the harness/plug and plug it in your 9006 low beam slot. So now you have 4 9005 bulbs. High beams are still gonna be regular. Low beams are a lot brighter now.

I thought doing the 9005 conversion damaged/destroyed the wires with the extra wattage going through them.

Is there any other downside? I don't want to drive around with my high beams basically on, but I assume the lens on the low beam prevents this from being the case. Am I correct?

The increase is 10W from low beam bulbs to high beam. From what I've researched and experienced myself after doing the conversion, the extra 10W is not enough to do any harm, but it sure increases visibility!
Since I did the mod (about 4 months ago) NO ONE coming the other way has ever flashed their lights which is a definite indication to me that running high beams bulbs as low beams does not affect oncoming drivers...as long as they are aimed properly.

And to do the mod, you don't have to make any modifications to your harnesses or plugs. You just have to do a bit of modding to the high beam bulbs themselves so they'll fit into the low beam housings.

Lexucan, how long have you had the 9005 conversion? I'm assuming the 9005 bulbs last just as long as a 9006 would correct?

I'll probably use my sister's 92 Camry XLE as the guinea pig Her output is the worst and that's after I cleaned the headlights.

It says right in the post above - about four months. And I see no reason why the 9005 bulbs wouldn't last as long as the 9006.
Here is the link to the instructions I used for modding the bulbs. It's got some nice pics of the process.

Your sister will thank you!

I'm sure she'll love it. I also have to replace her cluster lights. They just burned out. Time for some LEDs

Default Silverstars Photo's on 2nd gen ES

I've had silverstars before I had upgraded to my xetronic HID's a while back ago. I'm uploading a couple photo's in this topic since i've seen it awhile for reference to those that are considering purchasing the silverstars.
My thought on them, is that the light output on the road is generally increased, and the bulbs look whiter. But still have the look of halogen in general slightly. But look a lot whiter than stock. It shines on the road real well and most people will be more satisfied with halogens. But to each their own opinon. Heres the photo's now. Sorry I don't have any photo's of them actually shining on the road though
