Painting your car
How much does it usually run to paint a 2nd gen ES300 red from black? I tried taking my emblems off and i totally ****ed up my paint job, and it was already pretty bad on the hood and roof already from hail.. Think i'm going to have to get a new paint job and i'm thinking red would look best with my black rims and red brake calipers..

I think its better to ask shops around where you live. I believe most places charge differently for everything.
But if you want a random estimate on a individual part. The ENTIRE driverside paint job runs you around $3000 where I am. Probably a big ripoff but I'm not complaining...the scratches and gashes are gone...

paint jobs my friend are seriously disappointing. because, the quality and cost go usually hand in hand. for our cars, theyre pretty expensive, because they are two stage paint jobs from the factory, which means base(color) and gloss. whereas 1stage paintjobs mean that the gloss and base are mixed. but the amount of time to prep a vehicle is endless. and you dont really want to cheap out on a paintjob, because usually it shows, whether it be close or from far away.

In my opinion, black looks best on the 2nd gen es, since it has all the black plastic moulding trim on the lower half, and is kind of curvaceous (makes the car look thinner) Keep the two tone also, it looks better b/c of the plastic moulding panels around the car.

Yeah i dont think i would go with red anyways because it seems that everyone i've talked to thinks i should keep it black. I talked to some guy who does some of the best paint jobs in town and his price runs around 2400..

Sweet, you're from Oregon. What guy are you talking about? Around Portland/Vancouver area I hope.. I want to see a black paint job without any orange peels. 2 stage is a minimum for me. I don't want any Maaco type crap.

Indeed Maaco is cheap. Their ambassador paint is from $269... but that's cheap as hell. (I mean the quality) My friend used to have a 95 civic, he got his bumper repainted and it looked like crap after 6 months. It began to peel and the paint layers was not evened out. Maaco=

WOW.That is a lot of $.I guess its maybe due to my connections here in Houston BUT i got my s2000 painted from factory red to a range rover green with door jams and engine bay + threw a kit on it for only $1,500.And the quality was bad ***.
Then I went to my other hookup and got it all changed over to Escalade white diamond pearl for only $800
It might also be the fact that I have sent many cars to that shop.I cant wait to get a kit for my ES,so I can get it painted.Right now im thinking all black.

If you're looking to do it right, with proper sanded/stripped paint, proper primer/base coat/clear coat applications with multiple layers of coating that will last for years with high gloss and using 2 types of paints, body paint and a flexible paint for plastic parts, you're easily looking at $5,000+. The places that would get the job done right would take all the parts off, strip them, hang them then paint then put entire car put back together.
