SO! Today i was cleaning the engine bay, and i opened up my diag port... And there is this nasty *** orange/cream goo all over it. I touched it and it was very sticky. Anyone have any clue as to what this crap is and if its bad???
Yea thats supposed to be there its not a big deal. The fuel pump is very easy to do. On most cars you have to drop the gas tank. You just have to remove the back seat and BAM, right there. One of the many reasons I love working on Toyotas

Fuel pump...

First of all you want to depressurize the fuel system. Remove your fuel pump fuse from the engine bay and start your car until it wont start due to lack of fuel.

Yank out the bottom cushion of the back seat. Disconnect the harness going to the oval shaped cap on the right side. Remove the phillips head screws on the oval shaped cap and remove it. You may need a decent sized wrench to remove the fuel pipe going into the next cap, along with a 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding the cap down. After that its plug n play, you just take out the old one and dip the new one in. Then follow these directions in reverse!

Thank you all for your input, it has been quite helpful. Now i wanna know how much a fuel pump is and where i can get one for a good price. Also when i replace the fuel pump do i have to replace anything else? Isnt it possible to depressurize the system by opening up the fuel cap and opening the flapper door?

You will still have pressure in the fuel lines and may spray your interior when you unhook the fuel line coming from the pump cap.

Thats a filter to catch the sediment or rust at the bottom of the tank

Hmm I don't think I would trust a 50$ no-name ebay fuel pump, although compared to the 300$+ for a new one from the dealer I guess it's worth a shot. You could probably find a nicer Walboro pump for under 100$, but I'm not sure how much our cars would really benefit from it. mcelligott can probably answer that one better.

You could also call the toyota dealer and get the pricing on one. The Walbro's are about 100 bucks, as mcg33 mentioned, but you really dont need one unless you're upgrading your whole fuel system.
