"Turbo" noise coming from under the car?
I started up the car one morning, and i got out to go get something, and when i came back i heard a noise coming from under the car. To be exact it sounded like it was coming from the exhaust area under the back seats. And its sounds like a turbo or supercharger whine, high pitched fast flowing air. The car has 183k on it, any ideas?

I'd say depends where the leak is. If you're lucky it's just the muffler and that wouldn't affect anything really. Just an annoying noise is all. If it's before the cat, then it's bad for the environment. I think gas and performance decrease is negligible (for now at least).

Where is the fuel pump in the ES? It's right in that same spot (under the back seats) in many Lexus and often has a whining sound when there are issues.

I wish the turbo gnomes would come hook up my car in the middle of the night.
But seriously.. my car has been making a similar whining/suction sound under hard acceleration once I let off the gas. It is coming from the front though, and kind of sounds more like a vacuum. Hasn't seemed to affect how it drives but it raises an eyebrow every time I hear it.

Also yeah the fuel pump is more of a buzz/whoosh sound that comes from behind the back seat. Mine was pretty noisy during the winter when I would first start the car, but would go away after about 10 seconds. Hasn't made a peep since it warmed up. It's on the list of things to replace eventually.
