Default "Turbo" noise coming from under the car?

I started up the car one morning, and i got out to go get something, and when i came back i heard a noise coming from under the car. To be exact it sounded like it was coming from the exhaust area under the back seats. And its sounds like a turbo or supercharger whine, high pitched fast flowing air. The car has 183k on it, any ideas?

May be the start of an exhaust leak or maybe I turbo'd your car last night. If the sound gets more obnoxious it's a leak.

Just hope its not torn flex section in the y-pipe -- replacing that thing gets expensive if you dont DIY

Is a leaking exhaust a horrible thing? i know it cant be too good for the environment, but is it bad for the engine?

I'd say depends where the leak is. If you're lucky it's just the muffler and that wouldn't affect anything really. Just an annoying noise is all. If it's before the cat, then it's bad for the environment. I think gas and performance decrease is negligible (for now at least).

Where is the fuel pump in the ES? It's right in that same spot (under the back seats) in many Lexus and often has a whining sound when there are issues.

Cool

Its super easy. Pop the bottom seat, remove the rubber fuel line, unbolt a half-dozen 10mm bolts, lift the pump out.

The fuel pump is more of a buzz than an air sound. Check both out and let us know what you find!

I wish the turbo gnomes would come hook up my car in the middle of the night.

But seriously.. my car has been making a similar whining/suction sound under hard acceleration once I let off the gas. It is coming from the front though, and kind of sounds more like a vacuum. Hasn't seemed to affect how it drives but it raises an eyebrow every time I hear it.

Also yeah the fuel pump is more of a buzz/whoosh sound that comes from behind the back seat. Mine was pretty noisy during the winter when I would first start the car, but would go away after about 10 seconds. Hasn't made a peep since it warmed up. It's on the list of things to replace eventually.

So yeah, its the fuel pump. Anyone know how much those are to replace? Seems like an easy job(warn me if it isnt).

SO! Today i was cleaning the engine bay, and i opened up my diag port... And there is this nasty *** orange/cream goo all over it. I touched it and it was very sticky. Anyone have any clue as to what this crap is and if its bad???
