Umm...
you could try to describe the smell. Is it an organic spill or what?

well depending on what the source of the smell is... but besides detergent and water i would try hanging it on a clothes line for a few days to let it air out and maybe repeat that again if necessary make sure that the spare well is clean also

my sister spilled some korean bbq marinating sauce that she was taking to a bbq. I usually park outside so it was just rotting away without me knowing it and it stunk up my whole car...it smells like vinegar mixed with raw meat...doesnt smell too good

Try taking it out of the car, pour hot water all over it, hang it up on a clothes line or something and put a fan to it until its try. It might take you a second try to get rid of the smell.

I spilled fish sauce on my car's floormats in my Honda before. The smell lasted 2 months before it went away. Now I have a plastic bin in my trunk used to carry food items. Works out great, and no more spilled juices on my upholstery.

You just have to wait the smell out. Airing it out of the car helps alot, especially after you have used a cleaner.

I had to clean my sister's car trunk one time because water had gotten into it and started molding. Somehow the drain tube from the sunroof was dislodged and the water was going into the trunk for months.

Anyway, I used a Bissel carpet cleaner to clean out the mold, but I did learn that the trunk carpeting is extremely thin and is pretty water-resistant. I couldn't just do a once over to clean it like a normal carpet. I found that using one of those foaming cleaners work extremely well. After that I just rinse and let it air dry.

Another option is to replace the carpet with one of those rubber all-weather ones that's anti-slip. It also adds to sound dampening

Spot shot or a foaming carpet cleaner works miracles, and has a great smell!

OO Fish Sauce is the worst thing to spill in the car -stinky- (but tasty)
just use regular laundry detergent or carpet detergent and hose down the mat. Hang it outside for a couple of days to air out.
(1000th Post) hehe

The smell is probably coming from under the mat as well. Take everything out of your trunk (spare/tools/etc), make sure that the piece of particle board that covers the spare isn't moldy from the moisture, and clean the heck out of the entire trunk. Make sure the drain holes under the spare aren't blocked and there is no water collecting anywhere.

For the mat use some kind of carpet shampoo machine and then let it air dry. I did this after I first got my car and haven't smelled anything from my trunk since. And it keeps the cabin smelling fresh too.
