Default hesitation on cold start

when i turn on my car (00 es300) the next morning, it starts up, hesitates for a couple seconds as if its gonan shut off and then the rpm automatically goes up to 1.5 to warmup the engine, is there somehtign i shoudl look for, i replaced the spark plugs some time ago and MAF sensor. it hasnt cured this problem.

Im not sure if the 1mz has a cold start injector like the 3vz does but if so check that. Is there any check engine light? If the MAF was bad your fuel trim numbers would be out of whack or the engine would not run so thats out. Spark plugs dont really have anything to do with your problem.

You don't even know the meaning of cold start in FL LOL.My es starts with very little hesitation at 0-10 degrees. You might want to have your car looked at or just wait for Phoenix to chime in.

From my experience when I had my '01 ES, the most probable cause is a dirty throttle body or IACV (idle air control valve). In order to keep the engine you'd have to keep your foot on the gas as the car warms up so that the RPM needle would go to the normal range (1000-1500 rpms). You can get the throttle body cleaned up at a Toyota dealer for 1 hour's worth of labor, or get yourself some tools (throttle body cleaner spray, long screwdriver and some used rags) and do it yourself.
