ugh, it's costing me 300 bucks to have the tranny taken out and looked at alone -- who knows how much the rebuild's going to be...

nah, a rebuild will be cheaper -- and if i wanted to find a 5 speed out of an es300, i'd have a damn hard time, unless i settled for a camry 5 speed tranny

The 5spd manual tranny for the 3VZ-FE V6 is IDENTICAL for the Camry and ES300. They are both the same...NO difference.

Hahah...tell them to shove it! Most employees of dealerships are not necessarily Toyota/Lexus enthusiasts or knowledgable. Most of them call it a job that pays their bills and such. That's what I dislike about many Lexus service and parts department...their parts are TOYOTA, made by Toyota and designed by Toyota. Oh well. If I were you, i'd find another dealership for your business.

Some of Toyota dealers here in So.Cal are Toyota and Lexus both. For example Longo Toyota (Largest Toyota Dealer in the world)/Longo Lexus, Crown Toyota/ Lexus, Bob Baker Toyota/Lexus, etc etc.

Yea, i stopped going to the dealership about 2 years ago -- saved tons of money on maintenance so far.

Hehe funny you mention that. I've seen alot of the 12, 24, 36K mile "Lexus Services" which can cost an arm and a leg. Alot of the items they mentioned are not even necessary! I guess it's piece of mind for the not mechanically knowledgable. Dealer service departments = biggest profit machine for the dealer.
