I have a question for you Lexus Enthusiasts...
I own a silver 2002 Lexus ES 300. I purchased the vehicle 18 months ago and it had around 92,000 miles on it. This is high mileage for a 2002, but most of the first 92,000 miles were open road miles.
The timing belt was replaced at that time, and the 90K service plus a few other things were done to the car. The car is in immaculate/mint condition both inside and out and has run flawlessly thus far. I could not be more pleased.
I do quite a bit of driving (mostly open road with some hills, living in western PA) and the vehicle currently has just over 120,000 miles.
I am debating whether or not to have the Lexus dealer do the automatic transmission service (ie-change fluid, etc.) The transmission was last serviced at around 54,000 miles (66,000 miles ago). This service costs a little over $100.
I have noticed that the transmission has some of the "flaws" that the other 2002 ES's have (some bucking, searching for the right gear when accelerating/decelerating at 40-45mph, etc.) The computer was "flashed" shortly after I purchased the car and these conditions improved, but are still there.
Should I get the Automatic Transmission service at this point???
Also, are there any other things that I can do from a preventive perspective to prolong/maximize the life of the engine/powertrain/transmission?
I would like to keep the car for 250,000-300,000 miles.
Your input would be appreciated.
Thanks!
MG
