Installing After Market Radio
#16
The shops starting price on tint install is 159. I spoke with the the manager, he was charging so much for the rewiring(mostly labor), that the tint install was basically hooking me up. I've dealed with these guys in the past and they're pretty good . Plus they're reputable here in Milwaukee.
As for the whole headunit situation, Im not that all that savvy. And Im pretty good at breaking things so I'll hold up on the rewiring.

Anybody seen the latest Alpine models???? They are crap now.. Screens really plain and they don't have the auto eject, or tilt. The sales person said Alpine changed their engineering team a couple of years ago. Gonna go with another.. Any suggestions besides pioneer???

I don't mean to jack this thread but has anyone installed an aftermarket radio with a built in amp?
Would you be able to bypass the lexus amp and go directly to the speaker wires connected to the amp?

As for audio, I would get new speakers, an aftermarket amp, and a aftermarket radio. What you do is put in the new speakers and wire it directly into the aftermarket amp. This whole process will be very time consuming but worth it in the end. Then run some RCA cables from the headunit into the amp. And you're done. You just bypassed all the factory audio mess.

Since you are very friendly with the search tool , tell me how do I filter through all of these different ES generations. I hardly ever know what year a post really refers to. I have an '04 ES so mainly posts concerning the '02-06 ES300/330 apply to me, I think. I know there are some similarity from previous years.
The thing I'm trying to find now is how to remove the stock radio. I mean I know it is probably a few clips and some 10mm bolts but the dash is put together so well that I'm a little afraid I might break something if I don't know exactly what I am doing.

Well... i got some spare time..I usually go Pioneer, but...this time, i went JVC for their Versatility, i just installed a JVCax33 video, it has the 3.5 inch screen, audio video in and out, blue tooth(love that feature!!) i i can plug my nav into it, and it does IPOD, USB connect etc it has a hard drive etc...its not bad....now to get around the wiring issue.....i took out my interior and ran all new 14 gauge braided wires and while i had everything tore apart, i had to install Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 in the front and Kappa 6x9 in the rear, with a 1400 watt RF 5 channel amp...and of course the RF stage 3 12" 2 ohm woofers to top it off....if it were me and you are putting in an amp and new speakers, might as well run new wire....but like everyone said....you can easily splice into the existing speaker line and use adapters etc to finish your project....and the project wouldn't be complete without a little Dynamat! Good luck with your install....give us some pics and let us know how it goes!
